Performance: United We Stand – Negotiation and Democracy

By Annika Lundgren

The performance United We Stand – Negotiation and Democracy has its starting point in a real event - in 1967 the traffic in Sweden switched from driving on the left-hand side of the road to the right. Lundgren presents a successful and collective shift, from one system to another, in contrast to the permanent negotiations within our governing agencies. The work comprises in a verse-speaking choir* whose performance voices out the opinions of the Swedish voters from 2014 to 2018 and mirrors the political debate during the past term of office.
This performance is made with the participation of 14 volunteers that have contributed with their time and voices to form a speaking choir: Yosuf Akbary, Karl Bergh, Mary Coble, Gunilla Grundström, Cizzi Grönkvist, Jan-Erik Lundström, Mariangela Méndez Prencke, Petra Modigh, Felipe Mujica, Maria Nyman, Ellen Olaison, Eva Sik, Jessica Sörenson, Shukrullah Yaghubi.
* A verse-speaking choir is, in short, a choir that speaks instead of sing.
